Your Water, Our Planet: Stop drinking bottled water today

Every bottle of water you drink takes a certain amount of CO2 to produce, and it´s not small. It is estimated that “the manufacturing and transport of one kilogram bottle of Fiji water consumes 26.88 kilograms of water, 0.849 Kilograms of fossil fuel, and emits 562 grams of greenhouse gases.” Bottled water has a huge effect on our environment, and there isn´t much proof it´s any better for you.

Bottled water affects:

Water sources: Bottled water actually uses MORE water than in the bottle to produce and transport it. Meaning that you are wasting water by buying bottled water.

Communities: Bottled water companies take massive amounts of water from the same place. Consistently. This often leads to the community having water shortages and increasing the imbalance of water on our planet. Coca Cola’s draining of groundwater resources in Plachimada, India has caused riots in the street.

CO2 emissions: Every bottle of water needs to be produced and transported, emitting CO2 into the air. Drinking tap water instead, causes almost no CO2 emissions.

Landfills: There is not enough space for all of the plastic. You can recycle your bottled water, but most people do not. It is estimated that over 50% of the bottles still end up in the landfill.

So why is bottled water so popular? Most people believe it is better for you than tap water, but often that is not true. In fact, most tap water is CLEANER than bottled water.

So please, switch to tap water. Buy a filter. Take a rewashable water bottle with you for the day instead of buying it. And if you must drink bottled water, buy from a company in your country and please recycle your bottles.

  1. I didn't know how bottled water affects the environment. I think the best solution is to buy a water filter, cleaning our own water in it. If someone doesn't want spend money buying a filter, the only solution for her/him is recycle!

  2. I think we must to put some urgent solution .
People use a lot of plastic bottles because it is very comfortable so in my opinion the demage which plastic produces is more important .
We can increase the price of bottled water

  3. I think the big problem for this solution would be to buy a filter for the water faucet, and so we would not use bottles that create many problems. If you buy plastic bottles the only thing you can do is recycle every day, even hurt the world, but save plastic.

  5. I think one solution is, for not spend oil and emit CO2, to buy bottle water at the nearest place and then recycle it. I don't know if it is a good idea but I guess so. I agree with you, we must buy a filter, it's more economic and cleaner.

  6. we have this problem of transport, amount of co2 produced and landfills with many other things and for it i think the solution isn´t the tap water, instead of it, the companies have to think and stop this, every country has to produce his own needs and there will be not so much problem with transport and co2 produced. on the other hand, of course is better to buy a filter, drink tap water and recycle.

  8. I think that if I lived in a little village I would have my own well to get natural water, so I'm not contributing to the big emissions of CO2 which are generated by the bottling of water. Another point I want to emphasize is to REUSE THE BOTTLES OF WATER THAT WE BUY. To sum up I recommend you all to get a water purifier, the taste of the water is the same than bottled water, even better.
